Privacy Policy

Effective date: 14 August 2026
Last updated: 14 August 2026

This policy explains what the NVBDS Blood app and this website collect, why, who can see it, and how you can have it removed.

The short version

  • We collect only what is needed to match blood donors with people who need blood.
  • If you register as a donor, some of your details are public. Your name, blood group, general area, donation count and availability can be seen by anyone. Your phone number, email address and street address are not public.
  • We do not sell your data, show advertising, or use any analytics or tracking libraries.
  • The app does not access your device location, contacts, camera or photos.

What we collect

Account: name, email address, password (stored only as a secure hash), account type and blood group. We email a six-digit code to confirm your address.

Donor profile: date of birth, gender, phone number, weight, province, district, municipality, ward, street address, and whether you are willing to be called as an emergency donor.

Health-related: your blood group, your donation history (dates, units, the facility that collected it) and your eligibility dates. Date of birth and weight are used to check donation eligibility.

Blood requests: the patient’s name and age, the medical reason, the hospital and area, when blood is needed, and contact details. This is often information about another person, so please share only what is necessary.

Technical: when you sign in, the app sends your device make and model so you can recognise your own sessions. Our server keeps standard access logs.

What we do not collect

No device location (the app never requests location permission), no contacts, camera, photos or files, no advertising identifier, and no analytics or crash-reporting libraries.

What other people can see

If you have a donor profile, the following is publicly visible, including to people who are not signed in: your name and donor code, your blood group, your municipality, district and province, your total donations and the year you joined, whether you are currently available, whether you are an emergency donor, and your profile picture if you set one.

Never shown publicly: your email address, phone number, street address, date of birth, weight and medical notes.

Your phone number is revealed to the person who posted a blood request only after you choose to respond to it.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for advertising. It is seen by other users as described above, by registered hospitals and blood banks so they can record donations, and by our hosting and email providers who process it on our behalf. We also disclose it where the law requires it.

If you have set a Gravatar profile picture, your device loads that image from secure.gravatar.com. Where no picture is set, the app shows your initials instead and does not contact that service.

How your information is protected

All traffic uses HTTPS. Your sign-in token is held on your device in encrypted storage protected by the Android Keystore and is excluded from cloud backups; on our servers it is stored only as a hash. Passwords are stored only as secure hashes. Signing out revokes that device; changing or resetting your password revokes every session.

How long we keep it

Your account and donor profile are kept for as long as your account exists. Donation records are retained as part of our blood donation records because they establish donation history and eligibility. Server logs are kept for a limited period.

Your choices

  • Stop appearing in searches without deleting anything: set your availability to unavailable in the app.
  • Correct your details: edit your donor profile in the app at any time.
  • Get a copy of your data, or have it corrected or deleted: contact us using the details below.

Deleting your account

In the app, open Profile and choose Delete account, then enter your password to confirm. Deletion happens immediately.

If you have uninstalled the app, see https://nvbds.org.np/delete-account/.

Deleting your account erases your name, email address, phone number, street address, date of birth, gender, weight and profile picture, removes your donor profile from public listings, withdraws any blood request you posted, and signs you out everywhere. Records of donations you have already made are kept without your name or contact details attached, because they form part of the society’s donation records and public statistics. These anonymised records cannot be used to identify you.

Children

Blood donors must be at least 18 years old and the app is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date on this page, and tell you in the app or by email where the change is significant.
